Write for us
Emerald Movie Journal welcomes thoughtful pitches about film costume and wardrobe. A strong contribution begins with a specific, observable detail and gives readers a clear way to think about it.
What we welcome
We are interested in pieces about clothing choices on screen, costume details, accessories, period dress and the thinking involved in building a character's wardrobe. Pitches should focus on a defined question rather than trying to cover an entire film or history of costume.
A good pitch
Tell us the working idea, why it suits Emerald Movie Journal, the main point you would make and how you would support factual claims. A short outline is helpful. Please flag any relevant interests or relationships, and do not send work that depends on unsupported production anecdotes.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please include enough detail for us to understand the piece; an idea is welcome even if it is not a finished draft.
Clothing is part of the story
A collar, a worn cuff or a change of colour can tell us something before a character speaks. We look closely, without treating every detail as a secret code.
